On Tuesday, I drove down to Florida to pick up Miss Ruth.  She is a rescue from Florida Poodle Rescue. She was originally picked up by animal control and after ten days, Florida Poodle Rescue was contacted. Ruth (Josette) was lovingly cared for by her foster mom and family. Ruth weighed 28 pounds (stands 24 inches tall at the shoulder) in July. After three months in foster care, she is now 40 pounds, but still very sick. Our vets are working together to figure out the pieces of her medical story so we can help her heal. She was so weak when her foster mom got her that she had to be lifted up to pee pee. She must have had months of malnourishment before animal control picked her up. We think she is 8 years old. She might be deaf, but her sight is good.

She loves to be with the poos and follows us wherever we go. Ruth has the softest face and eyes.
I just want to see her tail wag...one day. She is by me right now as I type on the computer. Katy is not in this picture.  She was out "hunting" for squirrels!  I think Ruth will be a good squirrel hunter, too, when she feels better. The funny thing about this picture is Molly's tail! Ruth is very camera shy, so I took this picture at a distance. It almost looks like her big brothers are protecting her.
I cannot imagine this gentle soul on the streets without a home.

Ruth did her first little play jump with Katy this afternoon. Katy has tried to get Ruth to play, but normally  Ruth just walks away. This time, Ruth started it and Katy seemed surprised. She and Molly like to guard the front door. They are so cute together. She loves to be snuggled on our laps. We so adore her. She is eating well and going to the bathroom outside beautifully.

She's a love! Eve, Keith & Family

MISTY: A FOSTER’S STORY

Misty was one of the Poodles that were rescued from the animal shelter in Mississippi.  When Wendy and I first went to Kellogg's to pick up one for fostering, I actually fell in love with the little white one that was very talkative, but Wendy saw one of them cowering in the back of the pen and said that out of all of them, this one (Misty) seemed like the one that needed the most socialization and TLC.  If I had my way I would have taken them all. When we first saw her, even with her longer sheepdog hair-do, we could tell how pretty she was, especially her face.We had no Idea that she was BLIND until we got her home and noticed that she had one blue/gray eye and bumped into walls and doors. After a few days of carrying her outside to go to the bathroom, I noticed that as long as I kept talking or calling her name, she would stay close by me.  Even after a week of being here she was still scared to death of everyone and every noise she heard made her run and hide, knocking over everything in her way. She took a liking to a small child’s recliner that I had bought for Josie (my first poodle) when she was a puppy. So I put it next to my side of the bed and that’s where she has been sleeping ever since, laying her head against my pillow. She has come a long way in the past 4 months.  We took her to the eye specialist and had her examined for possible correction and were happy to find out that her vision was correctable to an extent. Honestly, I didn't know what to expect but hoped for the best for her.

Thanks to the Florida Poodle Rescue, Misty now has her SIGHT  back. The doctor was able to fully correct her vision in her left eye and has farsighted vision in her right. It has been five days since her eye surgery and the difference is incredible. she prances around our back yard (with her big funnel shaped collar on) looking at everything!

We can't tell you how happy we are to be a part of this little girl's life and be able to see her transformation from day one being blind, neglected, ear infections, and afraid of everyone...... To a happy, prancing, playful, sweet, affectionate girl (who for some reason is still afraid of children) but we are working on that. I'll keep everyone updated on her progress and try to bring her to the picnic in October along with a few of our other kids.

Hope I wasn't too long-winded.

Lavender & Lilac

Lavender & Lilac

Lavender & Lilac

Lavender 8 years & Lilac 5 years

Lavendar & Lilac, a mother & daughter, were given up due to unusual circumstances.  Their human parents moved to New Zealand and rather than having Lavendar & Lilac go through the 6 month quarantine process, let her daughter keep the furry “kids”.    After 1-2 years, the daughter got divorced & going to college cannot keep them.  Their new parents drove from TEXAS to SOUTH CAROLINA to adopt Lavendar & Lilac.

Received this update from their forever parents:

We love our mother and daughter poodle that you helped us adopt.  We have had them about a year and a half and they are the center of our lives.

Story about the 2:  I am a Presbyterian minister.  I practice my sermons each Thurs, Fri, Sat, and Sunday mornings before I preach them.  The 2 poodles lie in front of the pulpit and listen to my sermons, sleeping when it is appropriate, and listening if they perceive that I am making a decent point.  However, ever once in a while, when I am preaching to the empty church, they will get up and wander around the sanctuary and even leave and go to another part of the church.  When I realize that they are distracted, I always stop, analyze what I am saying, and perceive that they are actually right.  I have no real interest in what I am saying, it is a boring subject, or I am especially nervous about a point I am trying to make.  They know that I am not at my best and they tell me.

Thank you for your work!  Your placement with us of these 2 is a gift!

Our two girls walk the Canadian River bridge with us each morning, they listen to me practicing my sermons at least 3 times each week, they are more welcome than I am in many of the elderly homes that I visit.  Lavendar is a certified Pet Therapy dog allowed to visit the children’s floors and the psych units of 8 different hospitals in our area.  Obviously I am very satisfied and very attached to these two girls.
