RUSTY PETE

Here are two new photos of Rusty Pete.

He is at the groomers today getting bathed and a shave – he is doing well and we love him!

MONTY                                         COOPER

We are enjoying the newest addition to the household -- Monty (8 year
old mini). Our other three poodles are standards and he is so tiny! He is
getting along well with the other dogs and with the cats and is quickly
learning our household's routines.
We aren't giving him as many treats as his

previous "mother."   He has had several seizures, but quickly recovers.

Monty was not a troubled dog, except for the seizures.

Cooper, who we also adopted,  was very troubled and now is sweet and
affectionate. Seems amazing to note the change from how he was when he
first came to us. It was our other poodle population that gave him security
and allowed him to become "normal" with people.
Our poodle population is pretty expensive -- food, vet, clipping. But I
wish we could take in another four poodles! But we are about at our limit.

LILIA

Lilia, shown here by her Foster Daddy's lap, was one of the 5 standards given up by a breeder's family.  No longer a "breed poodle" she enjoys being loved and adored in her forever home.

PEPPER

Pepper is doing well adjusting to her new home and environment. She seems to love the back yard and follows Wookie (on the left)  around all the time. He's showing her the ropes. I think that she has decided to stay for a while. We do believe that she has gained a pound or two since she has been with us.

PEPPIE

That's Peppy on the left--it was love at first sight when he met Frances, our 6 yr old Goldendoodle. The trip from St. Petersburg to Lake Worth was a little hard on him, but once he passed thru our door, he instantly became a family member. Thank you, Florida Poodle Rescue, Bob & Jeff, for all you do!

Warmest regards, Jane, Albert, & Frances DeCoursey

LEXIE

I want to thank you for taking in Lexie and letting us know about her.  We have been waiting and looking for a Poodle like her for over 10 years . She is perfect in every way.  Her health

is good, she minds well and is the perfect lap dog.  She can't get enough loving and gives back 110% of that love .

Thank you again  Don and Shirley

PETEY

Thought you would like to see these pictures of Petey.  He is absolutely beautiful.   Who knew what a handsome boy he would become.  He is a wonderful companion and much better with strangers on the street. Thought you would like to see the fruit of your efforts

HOLLY

A few (2) months ago (June 2009) I adopted HOLLY, a 12 yr. Old  Standard  from a guy in the Western Florida Panhandle.   His mother had passed away and he could not keep Holly.   She's a great dog, well behaved and not the first problem.  She came to me full of fleas and a cruddy right eye.  All's well now, she's Heart Worm free and on meds for her eye and fleas & heartworms.  Rotten teeth too. All taken care of.

She gets along famously with my male standard Lucky, who was rescued from Houston.

I just wanted to pass along this information to you. Thanks for locating me and Holly.           She's a keeper.

Robin

PRINCESS  now  BRIE

SADIE  now  BELLE

4 years ago PRINCESS was found roaming the streets of Tampa and picked up by Animal Control.  She was very matted and had very bad ear infections.   Florida Poodle Rescue came to her aid, had her groomed and her ears evaluated.  Her ears were in the worst condition our vets had ever seen.  While in foster care and undergoing treatment a couple on the East Coast of Florida fell in love with her, drove 3 hours to Dunedin and adopted her.  She continues to see specialist to keep her ears healthy.  They have named her BRIE.

Recently, May of 2009, SADIE was turned into the Humane Society in South Georgia because she had a bad leg.  She also had heartworms.  Florida Poodle Rescue came to her aid and had her leg operated on by one of our specialists in Tampa.    Her heartworms will be treated after her rehabilitation.  This same couple saw her photo and fell in love with her.  They paid for her surgery and adopted her.   Her name is now BELLE and is in her forever home with her “Sister” Brie.

They now have “Queen” Brie  and  “Princess” Belle.

CHAMP

Thanks to you and your staff at Florida Poodle Rescue.  We just adopted Champ last week from his foster Mother, Denise.  He is great with our kids and sleeps in the bed with my youngest daughter.  He is absolutely no trouble and a great addition to our family.  I plan on having him tested in the near future so that he can qualify to be a Therapy Dog.  Thanks again for approving me for this wonderful dog.

JAKE

JAKE  was a "throw-away" to the Florida Poodle Rescue.   How lucky could we get!! They called us as soon as he was "fostered",  and we received the gift of a lifetime...a companion with great affection, and a personality that doesn't quit!  He makes us laugh till we cry!

We think he now knows that he's in his forever home!

SHILOH

TIKI

We adopted SHILOH.   He is so sweet...He is now eating dog food and drinks water.  He has gained at least 2 pounds.  We love him so much... he is still not fully trained to go outside - but we hired a friend who is a dog trainer and his is doing better... he only makes at mistake once or twice a day.... as oppose to 4 or 5 times a day.  He loves us so much he licks our face all the time... It will take some time to train him, but we have patience.

We also have TIKI.  What a great find...... cannot find anything bad about him,  loveable, sweet and loves to EAT......

I cannot look at your web site because we will adopt all....If we had a place for all of your babies,  we will take them all.          God bless you for all you have done for these babies and again thanks for our babies.

Take care

ALFIE

Alfie

Alfie

Approximately 10 years ago my husband and I adopted a poodle from Florida Poodle Rescue.  We didn't want a male, we didn't want a white poodle, but once Alfie saw us and we saw him our hearts were sealed.

I wanted to send this picture of Alfie so that you could see what a joy he is.
My husband had cancer and Alfie was a constant companion to him.  They would sit in the living room or lie on the bed for hours, Alfie always as close as possible. Nine years ago my husband passed away and I was so alone, but Alfie took it upon himself to make sure I laughed, smiled and did not feel alone.  He did some of the funniest things I have ever seen a dog do.  He knew when I was unhappy and he would run around in circles, jump up on my lap and lick my face with such abandon.  What could you do but laugh.

My first Christmas alone I put up my own live tree, decorated it and had the prettiest lights.  I was cleaning the house and Alfie kept coming to the back bedroom barking, barking, barking.  I turned the vacuum off and I did hear the phone ring.  So I talked on the phone.  Afterward I went back to vacuuming and he started the incessant barking.  He kept running up and jumping at me and running out of the bedroom.  I thought of geez, the phone must be ringing again.  I went out to the living room and saw that he was standing in the den. He looked to me and then back at the den.  Why was he barking - the tree lights caught the tree on fire.  I quickly cleared the tree out of the den and into the yard.

My Mom moved in with me four years ago and he has been such a good companion for her as well.  He is quite spoiled.

We have never, in the nine years we have had him, had one bit of trouble with him.  He is an excellent friend to our family, seven grandchildren, neighbors and friends.
I always tell him - I don't know how your Mommy could have given you up, but thank God she did.  Because he is our love.

Any time someone asks about Alfie I tell them he was a rescue dog and I highly recommend going this route for a friend.

Thank you.

Josette

Josette Before

Josette

Ruth formerly

Ruth formerly Josette (foreground)

On Tuesday, I drove down to Florida to pick up Miss Ruth.  She is a rescue from Florida Poodle Rescue. She was originally picked up by animal control and after ten days, Florida Poodle Rescue was contacted. Ruth (Josette) was lovingly cared for by her foster mom and family. Ruth weighed 28 pounds (stands 24 inches tall at the shoulder) in July. After three months in foster care, she is now 40 pounds, but still very sick. Our vets are working together to figure out the pieces of her medical story so we can help her heal. She was so weak when her foster mom got her that she had to be lifted up to pee pee. She must have had months of malnourishment before animal control picked her up. We think she is 8 years old. She might be deaf, but her sight is good.

She loves to be with the poos and follows us wherever we go. Ruth has the softest face and eyes.
I just want to see her tail wag...one day. She is by me right now as I type on the computer. Katy is not in this picture.  She was out "hunting" for squirrels!  I think Ruth will be a good squirrel hunter, too, when she feels better. The funny thing about this picture is Molly's tail! Ruth is very camera shy, so I took this picture at a distance. It almost looks like her big brothers are protecting her.
I cannot imagine this gentle soul on the streets without a home.

Ruth did her first little play jump with Katy this afternoon. Katy has tried to get Ruth to play, but normally  Ruth just walks away. This time, Ruth started it and Katy seemed surprised. She and Molly like to guard the front door. They are so cute together. She loves to be snuggled on our laps. We so adore her. She is eating well and going to the bathroom outside beautifully.

She's a love! Eve, Keith & Family

Misty

Misty

MISTY: A FOSTER’S STORY

Misty was one of the Poodles that were rescued from the animal shelter in Mississippi.  When Wendy and I first went to Kellogg's to pick up one for fostering, I actually fell in love with the little white one that was very talkative, but Wendy saw one of them cowering in the back of the pen and said that out of all of them, this one (Misty) seemed like the one that needed the most socialization and TLC.  If I had my way I would have taken them all. When we first saw her, even with her longer sheepdog hair-do, we could tell how pretty she was, especially her face.We had no Idea that she was BLIND until we got her home and noticed that she had one blue/gray eye and bumped into walls and doors. After a few days of carrying her outside to go to the bathroom, I noticed that as long as I kept talking or calling her name, she would stay close by me.  Even after a week of being here she was still scared to death of everyone and every noise she heard made her run and hide, knocking over everything in her way. She took a liking to a small child’s recliner that I had bought for Josie (my first poodle) when she was a puppy. So I put it next to my side of the bed and that’s where she has been sleeping ever since, laying her head against my pillow. She has come a long way in the past 4 months.  We took her to the eye specialist and had her examined for possible correction and were happy to find out that her vision was correctable to an extent. Honestly, I didn't know what to expect but hoped for the best for her.
Thanks to the Florida Poodle Rescue, Misty now has her SIGHT  back. The doctor was able to fully correct her vision in her left eye and has farsighted vision in her right. It has been five days since her eye surgery and the difference is incredible. she prances around our back yard (with her big funnel shaped collar on) looking at everything!
We can't tell you how happy we are to be a part of this little girl's life and be able to see her transformation from day one being blind, neglected, ear infections, and afraid of everyone...... To a happy, prancing, playful, sweet, affectionate girl (who for some reason is still afraid of children) but we are working on that. I'll keep everyone updated on her progress and try to bring her to the picnic in October along with a few of our other kids.

Hope I wasn't too long-winded.
Mike ,Wendy  & Michaela  ....oh, and Josie, Dixie, Dewey, Misty, Angel & Leah

Lavender & Lilac

Lavender & Lilac

Lavender & Lilac

Lavender 8 years & Lilac 5 years

Lavendar & Lilac, a mother & daughter, were given up due to unusual circumstances.  Their human parents moved to New Zealand and rather than having Lavendar & Lilac go through the 6 month quarantine process, let her daughter keep the furry “kids”.    After 1-2 years, the daughter got divorced & going to college cannot keep them.  Their new parents drove from TEXAS to SOUTH CAROLINA to adopt Lavendar & Lilac.

Received this update from their forever parents:

We love our mother and daughter poodle that you helped us adopt.  We have had them about a year and a half and they are the center of our lives.

Story about the 2:  I am a Presbyterian minister.  I practice my sermons each Thurs, Fri, Sat, and Sunday mornings before I preach them.  The 2 poodles lie in front of the pulpit and listen to my sermons, sleeping when it is appropriate, and listening if they perceive that I am making a decent point.  However, ever once in a while, when I am preaching to the empty church, they will get up and wander around the sanctuary and even leave and go to another part of the church.  When I realize that they are distracted, I always stop, analyze what I am saying, and perceive that they are actually right.  I have no real interest in what I am saying, it is a boring subject, or I am especially nervous about a point I am trying to make.  They know that I am not at my best and they tell me.

Thank you for your work!  Your placement with us of these 2 is a gift!

Our two girls walk the Canadian River bridge with us each morning, they listen to me practicing my sermons at least 3 times each week, they are more welcome than I am in many of the elderly homes that I visit.  Lavendar is a certified Pet Therapy dog allowed to visit the children’s floors and the psych units of 8 different hospitals in our area.  Obviously I am very satisfied and very attached to these two girls.
