Samson Poodle Samson Poodle

Samson was too sick for a Breeder to sell so he was given up in March of 2007. Our first veterinarian bill for over $1200.00 was for a blood transfusion, treatment of; blood disorders ticks and medications. The 2nd veterinarian’s bill for $4,000.00 (an internal specialist) found massive infections throughout his system. Given more medication & intravenous feedings he gained some weight & seemed a little better. He had a rear leg femur bone that was broken several months back & never treated. He is a 9 month old standard that weighs 24lbs. Being too weak to walk, he had to be carried & hand fed.

The first 2 weeks in his Foster home were touch and go. He was in baby diapers because of diarrhea due to his infections. He eventually gained the strength to walk and when taken outside goes to the bathroom. Samson was very lethargic and even though he ate well – could not put on any weight. We thought he was not going to make it and went back to the specialist for another blood test. 2 days before his appointment he actually started playing with a toy and tug of war with his foster sister. In the middle of the night he barked for the 1st time. He tried to run but it is more of a jog. The specialist said the blood work came back better but concerned that he lost a couple of pounds.

The1st week of April he had shown his will to live. He played with his foster brothers & sisters, walks all over the house inspecting everything, tries to get up in the bed, eating his special food as well as other dog food. He started giving kisses and wants to play. He wants attention & petting all the time.  Here are photos of his progress

Cinco

CincoCinco came to Florida Poodle Rescue  from a “Puppy Mill” breeder that totally neglected her Poodles.  Do to poor nutrition his gums recessed so badly that his teeth were just barely hanging on.  We had to pay for surgery to remove all of his teeth except for his lower K-9’s and a Bone Graft to repair his jaw.  So far his vet bills are $1000.00.

Now Cinco has a tape muzzle on & a esophageal feeding tube in.  This has to continue for 4 – 6 weeks depending on the healing process.  His Foster parents have to, as the doctor said, “Make a Cake” of food, medication & water to put in a syringe for his feeding. He is so adorable even with his bandages & muzzle.  He will thank you for any donation you can spare.

Samantha

Samantha the poodleSam, a gentle affectionate six year old female standard was dropped off at a vet in Tallahassee to be "put down" because she was sick. The vet refused and accepted ownership of her. She was totally blind with bad cataracts and had a severe thyroid problem and was nearly bald. the vet treated the thyroid, and she recovered quickly. After her hair started re-growing and a clean bill of health she was released to Florida Poodle Rescue. She was examined by an eye surgeon and became a successful cataract surgery candidate.

The surgery was an immediate success and her foster parents said it was the most emotionally rewarding experience ever. Sam is still in foster can but already has a new permanent home waiting with another poodle that needs ongoing care like Sam's need for thyroid medication. The bill for this surgery, over $2,500, was paid for by Florida Poodle Rescue.

This is just one example of were your donations go.

Sammy

As you can see Sammy is an adorable little 4lb toy that needs some financial assistance before being adopted. He is heartworm positive & undergoing $300 - $500 treatment.

His past existed with a breeder that had him living in a large wooden box with no human socialization. After a month, Sammy is just starting to trust his Foster parents, but will not come to them. He just sits or lays on his little bed & when picked up will cling to his Foster Mom.
Sammy loves cheese as a treat for going to the bathroom outside.

He has a face to love & will be a wonderful companion
