ALEXIS
8 Year old, 8lb., Female Toy
This little girl was at Animal Control and Florida Poodle
Rescue was called. Look at that face – would you say no?
We said yes because that is what we do. Alexis, named by
her foster, is a small girl, apricot colored and sweet as
sweet can be. She loves to sit on your lap and give kisses.
She likes to be held while riding in the car. She is leash
and house trained. She is not sure of the other dogs but
she does sniff them (just saying hello). She does not seem
affected by the transition her life has had. She is the
ultimate lap dog and will be perfect for a older person that
wants to care for a little girl.
She will melt your heart and will be a loyal companion.

GEORGIA PEACH
2 - 3 Year old, Female Mini
This little girl was found in a parking lot of a grocery
store in South Georgia. Something has happened to her hind
leg as it is swollen and smells awful. The vet called just
now and said the leg will have to be amputated. The foot is
completely necrotic and the tissue comes off with the matted
hair surrounding the foot.
Before euthanizing her, the animal control asked if Florida
Poodle Rescue could help her. We now have her in our care
and she is extremely thin. Frighteningly thin 5+ lbs and
she should probably weigh 12+lbs. She had to get a
transfusion and that probably will help her a lot. Her back
right leg is the one that had to be amputated. She also got
her teeth cleaned, her ears cleaned and got spade so her
little body has had quite a trauma today. She has some
infections (ears) but she is heartworm negative. Her eyes
are bright and she was so happy to be safe and warm and
loved on. She is on 2 antibiotics and pain
medication.
Once she has some fur on her lower body she will look worlds
better. She only has a little nub of a tail too. She
hobbles around and is quite agile already; the only problem
for her is if she shakes her head, she sometimes falls
over! She's quite gangly and needs to gain weight and
strength... she's evidently eating well and she's on her way
to being the healthy little girl that she deserves to be. The
vet says she is probably 2- 3 years old and is a sweet
adorable girl.
2/17/2010 Update:

AKA "DOODLE"
The wonderful people at the vet's office
named her DOODLE and she answers to it.
She got her stitches out Monday and she has gained a pound! I
gave her a quick bath so she is looking and feeling better.
Each day she seems more confident and secure -- and she's
more curious and playful. She would like to play with the
other dogs but they won't play much. She does enjoy her
toys and snoozing in someone's lap. I have her in either a
T-Shirt or sweater at all times because it's quite chilly
here. She's housetrained and will come and sit on command.
What a little angel!
3/7/2010 Update:

It's now been a month and Doodle is doing wonderfully in
every way. She's getting confidence and I'm taking her on
short walks to gain stamina. Kids especially are pretty
amazed to see her move right along on three legs... she's an
inspiration! She met her first cat and was curious but not
intimidated in the least. She's ready to find her forever
home.. I'd love to find someone here in the Panhandle area.
She will be an easy and loving addition to any family.
Estimated costs are $1,500.00 to get her healthy.
She will be eternally grateful if you can find it in
you heart to make a donation.

MONET
10 Year old, Male, 12lb. Mini
He has cataracts but can
see shadows. He has the sweetest disposition of any poodle
I've fostered. He's a lap dog and just wants to be close.
Monet was found wandering the streets of Pasco County and
taken to animal control. A vet refused to euthanize him
because he was in such good shape and had a remarkable
personality. She took him home and gave him all his medical
treatment. He was then turned into Florida Poodle Rescue to
help find him a loving forever home.

PIXCEE
5 – 6 Year old, Female, Poodle-Dachshund mix. Short legs, a
long body and the face and ears one a dachshund.
|
She has a really nice
personality. She is doing well after her
surgery. She follows me around the house, even
outside in the yard. She will look cuter when
she gains some weight and her fur will look
better after a health diet. I hope you can find
an nice, older person for her. That is what she
is used to and would be perfect for her.
|
PIXCEE’S STORY
I was reluctantly given up by my Mom because she can no
longer take care of me. I miss her very much. I just want
someone I can love. I want to sit on your lap or follow you
around the house. I love sleeping in a warm bed with you and
do not move around very much. I am calm and do fine with
other dogs and cats. Sometimes I even like to sit on your
shoulder to watch TV or see what you are reading. I am
pretty well house trained. I go to the door and if you open
it, I will go out, do my business and come right back
looking for you. I am 5 or 6 years old and have a cataract
in one eye, but I see find out of the other one. Don't
worry, I will find you and stay close. I would love a quiet
home where I can snuggle with you all day long.

RHETT
9 Year old, 9 1/2lb, Male Mini that was turned in because
his parents could not take him to their Condo.
Foster Mom's story: On the first night he followed them
around everywhere. When I sit down he wants me to pick him
up so he can be beside me. I think my young ones play is a
little loud for him because they really get going sometimes
but it was his first day. He loves the toys and he loves to
play with a ball - he will pick it up and drop it and then
push it forward with his nose like he is throwing it to you.
He slept in the dog bed I put beside my bed, didn't make a
peep all night. The noise he has made is I picked him up a
couple of times when he was relaxed and probably didn't want
to move and made a low small growl and I told him no and he
stopped. There was no aggression like I seen with Brody.
Brody was teeth out snorting and coming at you.
So far he has wanted nothing but to be with you and you to
love him.

SMOOCHIE
3 Year Old Male Mini
He likes Beneful dog food - prefers it mixed
with Rice, Chicken and vegetables but will eat it plain.
His Foster Mom cooks up Rice and Chicken to mix with the
dog food to give the dogs a more complete diet.
House trained as long as he is allowed to go
outside every few hours. If you have a fenced back yard all
you need to do is open the door and ask him if he needs to
potty - if he does he will go right out. Walks very nice on
a leash and is used to at least two walks a day of at least
20 minutes each time. Have not found a dog or cat yet that
he does not get along with and loves all the people he meets
but may be a little leery with someone new for about 10
minutes. Loves to sit on your lap and just have
attention—have belly rubbed, ears scratched and just be
petted.
He is just learning how to play now, he has
tried to play with other dogs a few times but thinks he gets
scared and stops. If there are other dogs around I think it
would only be a short time till they were playing together.
We see no aggression, in fact when I take his
food or toys away - he just looks at me as if to say "That
was mine".
As you are eating at the table he will sit
there and watch you but does not whine or beg.
Loves squeaky toys, has started to play tug
of war with some of the bigger stuffed animals.
As he gets to know you, he will follow you
around like a small shadow just waiting for a pat on the
head or for you to talk to him.
Responds to the names – Smoochie - Moochie
and Moocher. He is a fast learner, knew No commands when he
arrived here—in a few days he learned the basics, sit, lay,
stay and back.
Appears to be very good with kids—when we
encounter kids during our walks and they come up to him, he
greets them with kiss's and a happy smile—no growls even
when they startle him.
He will be a very nice companion and friend
for life.
